Ideally, having 8 weeks or more can help plan and execute a move with an organized and smooth process. However, 4 weeks is still doable, and anything less can make the move a bit stressful. To help you meet the last-minute deadline and still have a very successful move, we at Excalibur Moving & Storage would like to share a few last-minute moving hacks.
How Do You Pack to Move Last Minute?
1) Separate into the basics; keep, donate, and trash. Not packing anything you don’t genuinely need is an important guideline. Evaluate how frequently you use all the stuff in your and whether it’s worth the effort of taking it with you. Divide your possessions in 3 categories; items you keep, donate, and toss. Where the time crunch can be overwhelming, just keep the focus and work one room at a time.
2) When you find yourself moving under short notice, you want to move as little as possible. Before the packing process can begin, any item that will be donated or thrown away needs to be removed from the home first. Your motivation to move will be improved as relief washes over you as you see the house getting noticeably emptier. Donations should be items that is only gently used and in good condition and usable. If you have the time and not super crunched for time, you may want to think about a yard sale, but if time is short, donate it. They often give you a tax receipt to write off.
3) Put aside basic needs. Think ahead to what you will need to have immediately accessible once you arrive at your new place prior packing. Pack the hygiene products, your laptop, important chargers, and even snacks along with couple of changes of clothing. Be sure to put aside important documents including birth certificates, insurance cards, and other sensitive documents and keep it with at all times.
4) Organize the supplies. Keep in mind that being organized is your only hope for staying sane. Prepare a moving checklist at the top, be sure to get plenty of moving supplies such as tape, packing material, markers, boxes, and other essentials along with moving tools and equipment.
5) Pack by room and category. Be mindful of components like removable cords as you coordinate your packing to keep items from each room together. Both by room and by category be sure to label as you go. When you unpack once you arrive at your destination, you want to make sure your labeling system makes sense. Rather than treating it as another item that needs to be packed away, stick to the checklist. As you make progress, you can see your checklist dwindling as you cross off the items. Until everything is ready for your movers to come in, keep your focus and pack room by room.
