If you are getting ready to move some large appliances when you change locations, you are going to want to give yourself a couple days to get them ready. Here are the steps that you need to take to ensure they’re ready to go.
– Avoid DIY: You need to know when to do something yourself and when you should allow the professionals to take over. If you have large appliances that are attached to gas lines, you should always avoid disconnecting them on your own. This includes stoves, ovens, and dryers.
– Preparing the Refrigerator: When it comes to moving your fridge, you want to give yourself some time to do it. The fridge needs to be unplugged for at least 24 hours before you move so that it has time to fully defrost. You will also need to take the time to drain the water line if your fridge has one. It’s best if you can remove all your shelves and drawers and give it a good wipe down before you move as well.
– Prepare the Washer & Dryer: Another large appliance that many people move with them is the washer and dryer. It is best if you can run a cleaning cycle on your washer and then leave the door open for 24 hours before moving it. As far as the dryer is concerned, you will need to detach the vent and clean it out prior to moving. If the dryer is a gas dryer, call an appliance technician to help you disconnect it safely.
– Preparing the Dishwasher: Not everyone takes their dishwasher with them when they move, but it is a possibility. This is another appliance that could use a clean cycle before getting ready to move it. You will need to flip the breaker to cut power before disconnecting and draining the water supply hose.
