How Do You Make a Move Easier for Pets in La Verne, CA? Research Pet Needs Before Moving

When you think about how stressful moving can be on humans have you ever taken time to think about how stressful it can be for your pets? Moving with pets adds in a whole new layer to your moving preparations. You want to make sure that your pets get moved without any problems. Excalibur Moving & Storage helps people that have pets all the time. We want to share some of our favorite ideas for how to move with pets.

Research Pet Needs Before Moving

Before you move you will want to do your homework. Every housing development and city has their own rules and regulations when it comes to pets. Take time to ensure that you know the regulations in the city that you are moving to. Your pets may need extra vaccinations, medications, or certificates before they move to your new location.

Veterinary Visit Before Moving

You will want to take your pet in for a visit with your veterinarian before you move. Your doctor can give you some suggestions that might be helpful for your pet. Visiting your veterinarian will also give you an opportunity to get your pet’s medical records. You will need these records to take to your new vet when you arrive at your new home.

How Do I Keep My Pet Safe on Move Day?

The day of your move will likely be overwhelming for your pet. Keep your pet in a quiet area while your home is being packed. If you have a friend that can take your pet the day of the move that is typically the best option. If your pet has to be at your home we recommend that you keep them in a carrier or kennel away from all of the action as much as possible. Check on them regularly and make sure that they are okay and that they have food and water. When you start driving to your new home you will want to have your pet travel with you in your car. If you have cats or small dogs put their carrier in the back seat and secure the carrier with a seatbelt. Larger animals can go in the backseat of your car. If you can put them in a kennel that is the safest option but sometimes the kennel is too large to fit in your vehicle. Many animals feel better if they have a blanket over them as you drive. Experiment with a blanket and see if it helps your pet. When you are on the road your pet will need to stop and get out of the car if you have a long drive. Pets tend to get overwhelmed when they travel so make sure that they are on a leash when you let them out.

How Do You Make a Move Easier for Pets?

Once you arrive in your new home it may take your pet some time to adjust to their new environment. Give your pet extra attention until they adjust to their surroundings. Even if your pet is normally potty trained you may find that they have accidents for the first few weeks. You may also find that your pet has a hard time at night until they settle in.
