Make sure you are approaching it with mindfulness and you should be great. Excalibur Moving & Storage is here to share some tips to help you downsize your house room by room.
How to Downsize Your House One Room at a Time
After you have gotten over the overwhelming feeling of downsizing your house, it is time to roll up your sleeves and get to work. Here are our best tips to help you get ready for your downsize move, one room at a time.
– Kitchen: This space is often referred to as the heart of your home. You more than likely spend more time there than anywhere else. Parting ways with some of your kitchen items can be tough. This is a great time to get rid of duplicates, appliances you don’t use, and spices or foods that have expired. Don’t be afraid to make some changes to the way you approach your kitchen and cooking.
– Bedrooms: Your bedroom should be a calming place. Keep this in mind as you are making adjustments to the way your bedroom is currently. This is a great time to swap out your big, bulky furniture for something more sleek and manageable. You can also downsize your bedding which includes pillows and extra blankets.
– Living Spaces: Usually, the living spaces in your home have far more décor in them than is necessary. Maybe you will be moving into a house that has fewer or small living spaces. If that is the case, go through your décor and only keep the items that carry sentimental value with them.
– Basements: If you currently have a basement, there may be a good chance you won’t in your new, smaller home. If this is the case, it’s time to get rid of all the stuff you have thrown down there because you have no where else for it to go. Basements are often filled with things that we have no use for any longer. It’s time to part ways with it all.
– Garage: Perhaps you won’t have a garage at your new place. If this is a storage room for you, it is time to downsize the things that you are going to keep in your garage.
